No one can say that the employees at the Costco store in Commerce Township don’t have big hearts when it comes to donating to a good cause.
Employees at the store have pledged to donate enough money to purchase 1,000 #10 size cans of Del Monte Green Beans to donate to Higher Hopes, a nonprofit organization that works to raise complete Thanksgiving meals for families in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Detroit.
The initiative is being held in honor of store manager Gail Oenbring-Kinconnon, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year. It has appropriately been deemed “Green Beans for Gail.”
The new store manager, Narquita Steanhouse, is spearheading the effort. So far, about 350 cans have been purchased with more coming in daily. “Our employees adored Gail and are very eager to donate to help Higher Hopes reach its goal of collecting 1,000 large cans of green beans,” says Steanhouse. “We have amazing employees that are very generous. Doing this just seems like the right thing to do. We hope to have all the green beans by early November. Although this is an employee initiative through our store only, the public can get involved by donating to Higher Hopes in honor of Gail.”
“What the employees at this Costco are doing is simply amazing,” says Bill Birndorf, founder of Higher Hopes. “The love being shown here is a beautiful thing. We are very grateful to each and every person involved, especially Narquita, who orchestrated this fundraiser in honor of Gail.”
